Excerpt

1   A Loud Scream

Dazzle was in the kitchen, figuring out a new recipe and tasting each step along the way.

  “Yum!” she whispered to herself.

  And sometimes, “Not so yum!”

  And sometimes, “Ugh!”

  And sometimes, “Yuck!”

And then she would take notes, and start all over again.

As usual the twins, Grab and Grub, were out at the picnic table, trying snacks out for Dazzle and playing board games.

They had just finished playing four games of Slides and Ladders. Now they were playing a game called Giants versus Littles, and Grab was way ahead.

As usual little Dab was in her room reading a book. It was called Giants in Wonderland. She had just finished Moby Duck the night before, and today she wanted a funny book.

But she had just gotten to the part in the story where the gigantic fire-breathing jabber came into view, and she was no longer sure this was the book for her.

  Sighing, she put it down.

As usual the biggest giant, Grizzle, was outside checking all the fences at the Fe-Fi-Fo-Farm, making certain that everything was just right.

Suddenly Grizzle yelled, and he thundered, his voice loud and clear, “TREEEEEEEEmendous!”

As he barreled past the twins at the picnic table, into the house, past Dazzle in the kitchen, and past Dab in her bedroom, he continued to cry, “TREEEEEEmendous!”

What is going on with Grizzle? Why is he yelling at the tippy-top of his giant-sized voice? all the other Giants wondered.

Then Grizzle wrenched open the door of his own bedroom and fell onto the unmade bed. He was still yelling the same strange word as the bed collapsed beneath him.

And then everything in the farmhouse went silent.
